After much consideration, for the safety of all Run with Carl lovers, this year's Run With Carl is going “socially distant!” Instead of hosting our traditional 5K and 5 Mile race on Labor Day Monday, we are encouraging those who want to support the Run with Carl Mission to still participate - just in different ways this year.
HOW IT WORKS: Later this summer, there will be a SPECIAL EDITION shirt released for purchase to commemorate the year, so be on the lookout for more information about that coming soon! Then, anytime during the summer months, we want YOU to lace up your running/walking shoes and hit the pavement in honor of Carl, run the route, and post a selfie tagging #RWC2020. While some races in the Quad Cities have chosen to go “virtual”, Run with Carl will have NO race registration, no time reporting, or medals. Our hope is that you go out and be active, while supporting your local students and this amazing Quad Cities Labor Day tradition in whatever way you can!
In an effort to continue Carl’s legacy through this challenging time, we will also be collecting donations to directly benefit the Bettendorf and Pleasant Valley School Foundations through our RWC PayPal. We know the community will rally to support our graduating seniors and we are so grateful for the dedicated support of every Quad Citizen towards Run with Carl. Run with Carl was established in 1995 after the Schillig family lost their 15-year-old son, Carl, in a car-pedestrian accident. In memory of Carl, the family initiated an annual scholarship for graduating seniors at Bettendorf and Pleasant Valley High Schools. In 2015, the Bettendorf Community Schools Foundation and the Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation accepted the honor of continuing the race. Five years later, we’ve raised more than $150,000 for the foundations.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to a summer full of Run with Carl!
Sincerely,
Run with Carl Executive Committee
